NCAA College Football News Round-up

We are another weekend closer to the college football season. In fact, we are now less than two weeks away from the season kick off. Football Schedule looks at the latest news as the season gets closer and closer.

USC Earns AP Top Spot

The Associated Press preseason college football poll is out and the USC Trojans have been named as the #1 team. The announcement comes after most of the build up in the 2012 season has centred around the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide as the nation?s top two teams with USC third.

The Trojans have added running back Silas Redd since a lot of the preseason polls and have been close to the two SEC teams. Alabama were ranked second, while LSU came in third. Oklahoma were ranked fourth, while Oregon finished fifth. This is also the first major poll since the Tigers lost major backfield presence Tyrann Mathieu.

A lot of experts are picking USC, led by quarterback Matt Barkley, to end SEC?s reign over the national title game.

Michigan Defensive Tackle Ondre Pipkins Injured

Wolverines defensive tackle Pipkins was at practice on Saturday after being taken to hospital following a neck injury he suffered just before Friday?s morning practice. There hasn?t been a lot of information released on the topic, though there does seem some general concern surrounding the player. Pipkins was expected to be a very useful reserve defensive tackle for Michigan.
