AIR.U Bringing 'Super Wi-Fi' to Rural College Campuses

Super Wi-Fi is going to college, bringing broadband access to underserved campuses and their surrounding communities.

AIR.U (Advanced Internet Regions), a group comprised of a higher education associations, public interest groups, and high-tech companies, announced on Tuesday that it will deploy Super Wi-Fi networks to universities to expand high-speed wireless connectivity on and off campus. The "super" technology relies on TV white spaces, or unused television channels, to provide Internet access.

AIR.U said in a statement that it will focus on upgrading broadband in those areas that have greater-than-average demand for Web access, but less-than-average access.

Michael Calabrese, director of the Wireless Future Project at the New America Foundation's Open Technology Institute, said that the lack of sufficient broadband and a typically large number of vacant TV channels make colleges in rural areas "ideal candidates" to receive Super Wi-Fi capabilities.

The group's initial goal is to deploy pilot programs and "create a roadmap for the rapid deployment of sustainable, net generation wireless networks," as white spaces equipment is expected to become more widely available next year.

Super Wi-Fi networks will transmit on lower frequencies than regular Wi-Fi, allowing broadband signals to cover larger areas, the group said.

"Expanded broadband access has been an unaffordable hurdle in rural, underserved communities," said Robert Rucker, vice president for Operations and Technology at the United Negro College Fund, one off the AIR.U partners.

"This effort will enable selected institutions and all the constituents they serve to have the enhanced, sustainable capacity needed to more fully experience the information age and the ability to participate and contribute to it," Rucker said in a statement.

In December, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the first commercial Super Wi-Fi devices, as well as the geolocation database that will ensure white space devices operate only on vacant TV channels without interfering with television reception.

Google and a number of tech companies were selected last year by the FCC as administrators of the Super Wi-Fi databases. The eight other organizations include Comsearch, Frequency Finder, KB Enterprises and LS Telecom, Key Bridge Global, Neustar, Spectrum Bridge, Telcordia, and WSdb.

AIR.U expects one or more pilot networks to be operational by the first quarter of 2013.

Lack of Jobs Knowledge Means Schools Miss Mark on STEM, Experts Say

Schools are not teaching the skills employers need in their workforces, pushing the gap between need and knowledge in science, technology, engineering, and math fields father apart, experts said Thursday at the U.S. News 2012 STEM Summit.

STEM jobs require proficiency in applied math, reading, observation, and locating information more than any other field, but companies are struggling to find high school and college graduates with these abilities, said Merrilea Mayo, founder of Mayo Enterprises.

"Observation isn't taught in schools at all," Mayo said. "We teach something called math in school ? but seeing the world as math and coding it into math is completely missing from curriculum."

But this skills gap is not a surprise, and closing it will require a dialogue between educators and employers about what students need to be successful in the workplace, said Martin Scaglione, president and chief operating officer of the workforce development office at the testing company ACT.

Understanding the requirements of STEM employers and looking at data on the specifics of the job market?where the jobs are, what they pay, and how schools can train students for those jobs?can help schools shape curriculums to prepare students for the workforce, Scaglione said.

Often the jobs are not where people think they are, said Bruce Stephen, director of real-time labor intelligence research for Monster Government Solutions, using green jobs as an example.

"There are a lot of assumptions about the green economy, but we found there was very little real grasp about what was going on in these areas," Stephen said.

Data from online job postings and resume databases revealed green STEM jobs were in the transportation and heating and cooling sectors, he added.

Putting the needs of the job market into context in specific areas allows officials at community colleges and high schools to build curriculum to train to those needs, Stephen said.

Tying data and dialogue is key to solving the STEM skills gap, said Scaglione. "All the elements are there ? we just need to connect them all together."

Microsoft patents recording device to curb shortened attention spans

Mirosoft patents recording device to curb shortened attention spans

Time was, secretaries executive assistants were tasked with the chore of summing up a meeting's minutes so the less focused suits could play catch-up afterwards. Not so with this vision of the automated boardroom as put forth by a newly awarded Microsoft patent. Filed back in February of 2006, the doc outlines a computer-based method for recording live audio and video (including presentation slides), a system of monitoring a user's computer activity and tracking moments of attention loss. Sounds like Redmond's crafting an enterprise version of "gotcha!," but it's not so sinister. The proposed recorder would actually make recommendations based on the moments your focus drifted off, replete with full A/V playback and even the ability to hone in and amplify an individual speaker's voice. It's easy to see how this theoretic tech could wind up worming its way out of concrete towers and integrating into classrooms of the future (and even homes). For now, content yourself with the full-on legalese available at the source link below.

Family and fans took to Twitter Monday morning to share their sentiments about the late King of Pop on the third anniversary of his death.

Michael Jackson's fans haven't forgotten him. And neither has the King of Pop's little princess.

Early Monday morning, on the third anniversary of the music icon's death, Paris Jackson took to Twitter to pay tribute to her father's memory.

"RIP Michael Jackson," she wrote. "Dad you will be forever in my heart. I love you."

Earlier, she retweeted a message sent her way, reading, "The ones that love us never really leave us. You can always find them in here *heart*."

Unsurprisingly, Paris wasn't alone in paying tribute to her dad, as "RIP Michael Jackson" has been trending on Twitter all morning, with Michael's siblings also speaking out.

"3 yrs ago on this June 25th, my brother passed," Randy Jackson tweeted, adding that he planned on visiting Forest Lawn, where Michael is buried, later today.

"Sad morning all," La Toya Jackson wrote. "This day was the day that lead to the demise of my little brother. 'Michael We Love' May you RIP. Gone FAR To Soon."

Duracell 24-Hour Power System

Everything is going wireless these days, and that even includes power cables. Using magnetic inductive charging, the Duracell 24-Hour Power System ($99.99 list) wirelessly delivers juice to compatible devices. This technology isn't new, but the latest iteration brings a more streamlined form factor, for both the base station and wireless case, than we saw in the original Powermat Home & Office?($59.99, 4 stars). If Duracell can deliver on its promise to build out its network of public wireless power stations across the country, and embed the technology directly into more devices, the Powermat system could hold some serious potential. Until then, the 24-hour Power System seems more novel than truly convenient.

Design and Features
Both the original Powermat and the new Duracell-branded Powermat use the same magnetic inductive charging system, which lets you place compatible devices on the mat to begin charging. It's simpler than plugging cords in and out, and it looks much cleaner on your desk. Here, the included Powermat measures 0.38 by 6.25 by 3.75 inches (HWD) and weighs just over 6 ounces. It's more attractive than the last iteration, with a nice brushed aluminum base and a glossy black plastic top. There are two charging spots on top, marked by small and subtle concentric circles, and rubberized rails on the bottom to keep the Powermat in place.

The power adapter plugs into the back of the Powermat, and two LEDs on the bottom light up to indicate charging. There is also a built-in speaker that makes a somewhat obnoxiously loud chirp when charging begins. Unfortunately, Duracell nixed the USB port found on the original Powermat.?

The two included accessories are a slim iPhone 4/4S case and a portable external battery. The iPhone case is made of glossy plastic, with a top that folds back to allow the phone to slip in. A 30-pin dock connecter sits in the bottom of the case, making the iPhone a bit longer when it's inside. There's also a micro USB port on the bottom for traditional charging or syncing with a computer. Other than that, though, it's hard to differentiate between this case and any normal non-Powermat compatible case out there. The fit of the case isn't completely precise, as the top portion has a bit too much wiggle room. It's only a modest improvement over the Powermat Wireless Charging System for iPhone 4??($59.99, 3 stars).

The external battery resembles a small square puck, with a combination of gray and black plastic. It measures 2.75 inches across and 0.69 inches tall, making it somewhat pocket friendly, but you'll probably just want to throw it in your bag in case of emergencies. The battery has a stowaway 30-pin Apple dock connector and micro USB cable built in, with a power button on front and four LED status lights. It features an 1850mAh capacity, which added about 4 hours of 3G talk time to an iPhone 4S in our tests. The battery can also provide a charge to devices while charging itself on the mat, making it something of a universal adapter for devices with micro USB ports and 30-pin Apple ports.

Testing and Conclusions
Setup is fairly straightforward: Simply attach the wireless charging accessory and place the device on the indicated charging spot. The magnetic attraction helps guide the accessories into place, and I found that you can simply toss the battery onto the Powermat and it will usually find its own way?a neat trick for sure. The phone case, however, took a bit more getting used to. The margin for error was far narrower, and the connection was more finicky. The best way to establish a connection was sliding the case onto the mat from one end until you hear a chirp. Every so often I would get a connection, only to see it disconnect from a slight nudge. After some practice, though, lining up the connection became much easier. The Powermat also features what Duracell calls Smart Charging, which stops the flow of power once devices are fully charged. That said, I didn't notice any discernable difference between charging times with a traditional wall adapter and the Powermat system.

The new Powermat is compatible with all existing Powermat products. There are Powermat wireless accessories made for devices like Blackberrys and Nintendo DS's, but you won't find them listed directly on the Duracell website. For now, your only options for expansion are an iPhone 4/4S case ($34.99), additional Powermats for one, two, or three devices ($34.99, $49.99, and $69.99 respectively), and portable backup batteries ($49.99).

Everything works as advertised, and the whole system is pretty cool. But my biggest concern is replacing all your traditional power adapters with Powermats. Most people charge their devices in multiple locations, like at home and at the office, and would need separate Powermats for each location. That isn't exactly cost effective. On the other hand, if Duracell can deliver on its Wireless Nation promise, Powermat has some serious potential for changing the way we charge. The 24-Hour Power System definitely has a futuristic feel to it, and it will certainly tidy up your charging area. But until Duracell starts to embed the capability directly into a multitude of devices, it remains something of a novelty.?

Utah mom upset over judge's hair-cut punishment

(AP) ? A Utah mother says she felt intimidated in court when a judge told her that he would reduce her 13-year-old daughter's sentence if she chopped off the girl's ponytail in court ? an offer the mother says she now wishes she hadn't taken.

Valerie Bruno, of Price, said she has filed a formal complaint against 7th District Juvenile Judge Scott Johansen with the Utah Judicial Conduct Commission. The teenager and an 11-year-old friend were referred to juvenile court for cutting off the hair of a 3-year-old girl with scissors in March and for harassing another girl in Colorado by telephone.

When the 13-year-old faced Johansen for a hearing in May, he ordered she serve 30 days in detention and to perform 276 hours of community service, but he also offered to take 150 hours of community service off the sentence if her mother cut her ponytail in his courtroom.

Bruno is now expressing regret for not consulting an attorney before taking her daughter into the courtroom.

"I guess I should have went into the courtroom knowing my rights, because I felt very intimidated," she told the Deseret News. "An eye for an eye, that's not how you teach kids right from wrong."

Mindy Moss, mother of the 3-year-old whose hair was cut off, said she approved of the sentence and even spoke up during the hearing when she felt Bruno had not cut off enough of her daughter's hair. Johansen then directed Bruno to cut the ponytail all the way "to the rubber band."

Moss told The Salt Lake Tribune that she originally called police about the haircut because she worried the girls' behavior could become more serious.

"I didn't want them to think they got away with it ... It was malicious," Moss said.

Attempts by The Associated Press to reach Johansen were unsuccessful Sunday.

Colin Winchester, executive director of the Utah Judicial Conduct Commission, said the state Constitution bars him from commenting on whether a complaint has been filed against a judge. A complaint only becomes public if disciplinary action is taken against a judge, he said.

Under state law, judges are given discretion in coming up with sanctions for youth that will change their behavior in a positive way.

Johansen ordered the friend of Bruno's daughter to have her hair cut as short as his. She was allowed to go to a salon to have it done, then return to the courtroom to ensure that the new hairstyle met with the judge's approval.

Movin' On Up: Navarette, Granger commit to play college softball

Click photo to enlarge

From left: Jillian Navarette, head coach George Frederick and Mary Jo Granger pose at the high school softball stadium. Navarette and Granger sport the T-shirts of the schools they ll be playing softball in the spring of 2013. Navarette will be playing at junior college softball powerhouse Howard College in Big Spring, Texas, and Granger will staying in state to play at Eastern New Mexico University.

CARLSBAD ? Two former Cavegirls will take their talents to the next level in college softball with both staying close to home.

Mary Jo Granger and Jillian Navarette graduated from Carlsbad in May, but their time playing softball has not ended. Granger will play for Eastern New Mexico University and Navarette will play for Howard College in Big Spring, Texas, one of the top junior college softball programs in the country.

Granger heads into ENMU knowing the number of pitchers the program has, but she's ready to fight for a position and playing time.

"It's a challenge to fight for a position," Granger said. "But I'll be getting pretty good playing time."

The ENMU softball team went 15-34 last season with numerous freshmen on the roster. Granger joins that group to still be a young team. Granger said she looks forward to getting to know her new teammates and start over with young players.

"We'll start getting used to each other and picking up on each other very easy," she said.

Navarette will join up with a team that played in the junior college national championship tournament this past season when she goes to Howard. She hopes to contribute in any way she can.

"I just hope I can go in there and help the team out and be a positive impact," Navarette said.

She said hard work will be required on her part to one day transfer elsewhere after her time at Howard is over.

"It'll take lots of hard work, especially if I want to go to a [NCAA Division

I] school," she said. "I just have to work hard and always be improving all the time."

Both players said the experiences of playing in Carlsbad will help them as they move on to college softball.

"One thing in Carlsbad I'll always remember is how team oriented everyone was," Navarette said. "You have to stick together or else you will get nowhere ? staying together, being a team player, and not thinking of only yourself."

Granger thought for a moment about how her Carlsbad experiences will help her going forward into college, and then her mom helped her remember all the playing experience she's had.

"I'd say the five years experience she's had in the state tournament," Lisa Granger said. "She's been in there since eighth grade."

Head softball coach George Frederick had advice for both of his players as they get ready to move on.

To Mary Jo Granger he said she needs to just do her best.

"She's a hard worker," he said. "She tries to do everything you ask, and she's done that for five years here ? three years since I've been the head coach ? and she's going to be a success because that's the type of person she is."

To Navarette he said she needs to be herself.

"She's focused on what she wants to do," he said. "She's a very good leader. She's the best first baseman I've ever seen in high school softball. She's worth two or three runs a game at first base, and she's an outstanding person."

Obama on Title IX law : 'Springboard for success'

(AP) ? President Barack Obama is marking the 40th anniversary of the landmark anti-gender discrimination law known as Title IX, saying it's proved to be a "springboard for success."

The federal law is best known for promoting high school and college sports programs for women. But Obama writes in Newsweek magazine that the law has led to advances across the educational spectrum, including fields such as engineering and technology.

He says women who went to school under Title IX now "pioneer scientific breakthroughs, run thriving businesses, govern states, and, yes, coach varsity teams."

Obama also makes clear that he derives special pleasure from sports.

He notes his role as a sometime-coach of daughter Sasha's basketball team and says it's "one of those times when I just get to be 'Dad.'"

Prices of Facebook stock since long-awaited IPO

Facebook Inc.'s stock has been making a comeback over the past two weeks.

With Friday's close, the stock has been up on 13 trading days and down on 12 since its initial public offering. It was the first time the stock has risen more days than it has fallen.

Facebook began trading publicly in mid-May following one of the most anticipated stock offerings in history. The IPO priced at $38, at the top of a projected range that Facebook had already boosted just days earlier.

Although many investors had hoped for a big first-day pop, Facebook's stock opened on May 18 at $42.05 and fluctuated between $45 and $38 throughout the day. It closed barely above its IPO price, at $38.23.

The stock had fallen sharply in the weeks following the IPO, going as low as $25.52.

The company, along with the investment banks that led the IPO, is the subject of dozens of shareholder lawsuits. They allege that analysts at the large underwriting investment banks cut their financial forecasts for Facebook just before the IPO and told only a handful of clients. Facebook and the banks overseeing the IPO insist that nothing about its IPO process was illegal or even out of the ordinary.

Where the Hell is Matt? Still Dancing All Over the World!

Where the Hell is Matt?

Still doing his thing! You may very well recall the 2008 viral video in which video game designer Matt Harding quit his job, traveled around planet earth and performing his signature dance move in the most far-flung and unlikeliest of places.

Well, four years later ... Matt's back with a sequel!

Where the Hell is Matt (2012)

If it's possible, Harding's travelogue is even more impressive this time, with him dancing up a storm in locations ranging from Kabul, Afghanistan to Kigali, Rwanda, Damascus, Syria, Poria, Papua New Guinea and even the rarely seen Pyongyang, North Korea.

Not every place even made the video, either, but Matt, who released the 2012 video yesterday, promises to add them to a special outtakes video soon.

To compare the two and see the adventure that gained Harding his first 15 minutes, check out the 2008 "Where the Hell is Matt" video after the jump:

Negotiation Is a Fundamental Selling Skill

10:00 PM By Article Directory

'; div.innerHTML = summary; } //]]> Negotiation Is a Fundamental Selling Skill Negotiation Is a Fundamental Selling Skill

Negotiation in selling is quite a complex subject matter if we decide to analyse it in any great detail. Today in this article I'm not going to reach those depths as I will attempt to break it down to the most essential elements that I believe count the most when it comes to getting results. We all want the "Perfect Sale" but this can't really be achieved in most cases without some form of negotiation. Everybody uses negotiation in their everyday lives but some of us are better at it than others. Remember, in every negotiation there is always someone who comes out better. An expert sales negotiator can make a customer feel like they have "won" when in reality they haven't.

1. Expected Outcome

We cannot go into a negotiation successfully without having a clear picture in our head of the outcome we expect. We need to know the exact threshold of compromise if this is indeed one of our options. On the other hand, if we are able to give concessions it would be a much better strategy to incorporate these into the plan beforehand, so they can become that "extra card up the sleeve" when needed.

2. Positive Attitude

It's critically important to enter sales negotiation with a positive attitude in order to set the correct tone right from the outset. This can be helped by analysing all the competitive advantages and benefits beforehand which will in turn strengthen confidence in a successful outcome. Positivity is contagious and can therefore also influence the prospect's general attitude, making it more difficult for them to be negative.

3. Reading The Situation

Reading the prospect's state of mind and personality profile is probably one of the key factors in determining whether a sales negotiation will be successful or not. If you know how someone will react negatively or positively to certain behaviour you will be more likely to follow the flow of the surrounding energy. The one thing that you can never do in a sales negotiation is to contrast the prospect's opinion, whether they are right or wrong. I see this a lot so it's by no means obvious. Sales people often react instinctively when they don't like what the customer is saying. In my mind, this is like running out of petrol while driving through a dangerous ghetto. You've got yourself into trouble, but how are you going to get out of it?

In an ideal scenario the best negotiator, like a good chess player, will be able to look one or two steps ahead. This will depend on "Insight" and the ability to predict behaviour from the other side of the negotiating table. Obviously we can't always predict the outcome of the prospect's reaction but even if we can predict 60 or 70% we already have a distinct advantage.

4. Patience

Never over-react to the reaction. In fact reacting during the negotiating phase is bad in general. It would be much wiser to "respond" with a solution rather than reply with "impulsive" or "emotive" reactions. The best poker player never shows emotions and all great sales negotiators should do the same.

One good example of this could be negotiating on price. If the customer asks for a reduction in price, any signs of a chink in the seller's armoury could easily lead to a loss of control and a different perception of the overall value on the part of the prospective buyer.

So always remember that a little bit of brainstorming and planning before the sales negotiation will give the sales person the edge.

Taliban storm Afghan hotel, killing 18 people

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) ? Heavily armed Taliban insurgents stormed into a lakeside hotel north of Kabul and opened fire on guests inside, killing 18 people ? most civilians ? before the 12-hour long rampage ended Friday morning, Afghan officials said.

The brazen attack on a resort where many Afghans go to try to forget about the war was a dramatic reminder of the Taliban's resiliency as insurgents push hard with their summer offensive in a show of strength as U.S.-led forces prepared to withdraw by the end of 2014.

Insurgents first killed the security guards at the hotel, then pushed their way inside and began firing at guests who were having a late-night meal. Some of the guests escaped while others were held hostage as the attackers battled Afghan security forces who rushed to the scene for the next 12 hours.

Kabul police said five attackers had been shot and killed by midday Friday, ending the standoff. The Taliban claimed only four of their fighters were involved in the attack on the Spozhmai hotel at Qargha Lake, a popular weekend retreat about a half-hour drive from the capital.

U.S. Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, said the attack was likely carried out by fighters loyal to the Haqqani network. The al-Qaida linked group is based in Pakistan and regularly targets Afghan and coalition forces in Afghanistan, and conducts deadly attacks in Kabul.

"This attack bears the signature of the Haqqani network, which continues to target and kill innocent Afghans and blatantly violate Afghan sovereignty from the safety of Pakistan," Allen said, adding that some victims were killed in their sleep.

He added that the coalition provided "minimal support" at the Afghans' request.

Mohammad Zahir, criminal director for Kabul police, said the hotel was crowded when the attackers entered and opened fire on families having a late dinner.

"Some of the guests jumped from the window into the hotel yard. They were hiding under trees or any safe place they could find," he said. "Three of the guests jumped into the lake and hid in the water."

Kabul Police Chief Mohammad Ayub Salangi said the attackers ? armed with machines guns, rocket-propelled grenades and vests laden with explosives ? stormed the Spozhmai hotel at Qargha Lake before midnight on Thursday. By midmorning Friday, militants were still fighting Afghan forces, supported by international troops, and gunfire pierced the quiet surroundings of the lake area. Black smoke rose from the two-story hotel surrounded by trees as NATO helicopters circled overhead.

Mohammad Qasim, who survived the attack, said he went to the reception desk to tell the manager that he suspected that militants had entered the hotel.

"Before I finished talking with the manager, they fired on us," Qasim said. "(The manager) hid himself behind his desk, but around three to four other guys who were guards and waiters were killed by the attackers."

Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the assault, the latest in a string of attacks this week.

Fourteen Afghan civilians, three security guards and an Afghan police officer died in the attack, said Mohammad Zahir, criminal director for Kabul police.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the Taliban attacked the hotel because foreigners there were drinking alcohol and participating in other activities banned by Islam, but that was disputed by the Kabul police.

"The Taliban propaganda is saying that there was immoral activity there and that people were drinking alcohol," said Zahir, the criminal director for the Kabul police. "That is totally wrong. These are people who had worked all week and had gone to the lake to have a restful dinner with their families. The view there is very good for relaxation. There is no alcohol."

The hotel, situated on a man-made lake, is a popular place for well-to-do Afghans to spend Thursday night ? the beginning of the Afghan weekend ? or for picnic excursions on a Friday when paddleboats and horseback riding are on offer. Though international workers do go to Qargha lake, Afghans make up the majority of the clientele at the hotels and kebab shops along its shore.

Security at the lake is light compared with targets inside the Afghan capital, which has been hit frequently as the Taliban show they can still strike very close to the seat of the Afghan government. While hotels at the lake have armed guards, there are no massive blast walls and security cordons that surround government and military buildings in Kabul. Zahir said only two of the three guards killed at the hotel were armed.

The hotel was a soft target compared with the attacks insurgents have launched inside the city in recent years, including taking over construction sites and firing down on embassies and storming the tightly secured Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul last summer.

The week has been particularly violent in Afghanistan, as insurgents stepped up attacks against international forces. On Wednesday, a suicide bomber attacked U.S. and Afghan forces at a checkpoint in a busy market in the east, killing 21 people, including three U.S. soldiers. The same day, seven Afghan civilians were killed by a roadside bomb.

Those bombings came the day after two attacks in the south in which militants stormed a NATO military base and attacked a police checkpoint. U.S. troops were wounded in the attack on the NATO base, officials said. On Monday, three gunmen dressed in Afghan police uniforms killed one American service member and wounded nine others in Kandahar's Zhari district.

The fighting suggests that the Taliban are not planning to wait for international combat forces to complete their exit from Afghanistan at the end of 2014. The commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Marine Gen. John Allen, has to withdraw 23,000 American troops by the end of September, leaving about 68,000 U.S. military personnel in the country.

Separately, the U.S.-led coalition said two NATO service members were killed Friday by insurgents in southern Afghanistan. No other details were released and it was not clear whether they were killed in the same attack. So far this year, 203 NATO service members have been killed in Afghanistan.

Jim Carrey: OUT of Dumb and Dumber 2

Jim Carrey is now officially saying no to the long-awaited sequel to his 1994 smash hit Dumb and Dumber, months after apparently agreeing to the film.

Is this move smart, dumb or dumber from a business standpoint?

Time will tell, but sources say Carrey wasn't feeling the love executives at New Line and Warner Bros., who in his view "showed a lack of enthusiasm."

The film was/is supposed to be titled Dumb and Dumber To.

Jim Carrey Hair

"I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer," the star himself said in a statement confirming the report. "After all, it's implied in the title."

Alas, no.

Perhaps studios weren't psyched about the box office of the Farrelly brothers' last venture, The Three Stooges, which sort of tanked at the box office.

Still, Carrey and Jeff Daniels in a Dumb and Dumber sequel that fans have clamored for since the mid-90s? How would that not be a hit?

In any case, Carrey, who made news last week for being criticized by Jenny McCarthy, will next appear with Steve Carell in the comedy Burt Wonderstone.
